Dr. Hannah Gbenro is an educator, change agent, and social justice advocate. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with dual specializations in Business & The Principalship, Master’s in Teacher Leadership, and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Hannah also holds K-12 Washington State credentials in The Superintendency, The Principalship, and Teaching. Hannah has served at each level within K-12 schools – elementary, middle, high, and district – over the last 20-years. This included leadership as a paraeducator, teacher, instructional coach, school & district administrator, and chief academic officer in mid-size to large urban and suburban school districts within Washington and California.
She specializes in equity-drive change management, organizational development, and continuous improvement at the school and district levels, having supervised the implementation of the district strategic plan and school improvement plans (SIPs). Hannah has also led the development & implementation of project management systems for continuous improvement and was trained in project management through the University of Washington Tacoma and the Project Management Institute (PMI). Hannah’s currently a private consultant with contracts to coach principals and executive leadership for school and organizational transformation.
On the non-profit side, Hannah served as president of the Washington State Association of Supervision & Curriculum Development (WSASCD) where she led statewide opportunities for educators to learn, such as the inaugural . In this role, Hannah spearheaded efforts to diversify revenue streams, implement an equity-focused strategic plan, and foster collective action initiatives. She remains active in her volunteer work with the CIS-WA Board and serves on the boards of the Neurodiversity Education Research Center (NERC) and the national . Additionally, Hannah teaches doctoral 91¹ú²ú in leadership practice and program evaluation.
Within K-12, Hannah’s been recognized for her leadership with research focused on mastery-based learning and equity with awards from the prestigious American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Washington Educational Research Association (WERA). She has also been recognized with awards for her K-12 and non-profit leadership, innovation, and support of adult learning by WSASCD and ASCD International.
Hannah is an experienced leader from the classroom to the board room. Her leadership has involved advocacy efforts and anti-racist and anti-biased reform at the local and state levels through her districts and statewide service with WSASCD. She brings passion and experience with collective action to her service on the Communities in Schools Washington Board.Â
